Pitchy Pelfrey

New York Mets Record: 52-51

Current Streak: L1

Mike Pelfrey started the season on a roll. He had 9 wins,1 loss and was on pace for 20 or more wins. Since then It's gone all downhill for Pelfrey. he's been 1-5 since that amazing start, and he has let up early runs in the 1st Inning. He looked to change his fortunes vs The Arizona Diamondbacks. Although his last outings with the D-Backs wasn't so good. 12 days ago, When Pelf faced the D-Backs,he only pitched 1 and 1/3 innings, letting up 7 runs,6 of which were let up in the 1st inning. So Pelfrey was looking to REALLY change his fortunes. In the 1st inning, It was more early trouble as Adam Laroche singled to Left, scoring Kelly Johnson. 1-0 D-Backs. It didn't get better from here on out. What happened Next was Miguel Montero,Montero was coming off a really good night vs The Phillies, started it out the same way here. Montero also singled to left, scoring Justin Upton. 2-0 D-Backs Top 1st. Next Batter was Mark Reynolds,HE singled into SHALLOW left field, scoring the one who started the rally, Adam Laroche. 3-0 D-backs Top 1st. Pelf then stopped the bleeding with a flie out. after a Reyes single and Castillo single and Pagan Popout,David Wright came up. Wright has been swinging a cold bat lately, but showed some sparks in the last series vs the Cards, but still didn't get a Long bomb. Wright came up and smacked one into Left,a high drive going, going, over the big wall Gone! With one swing of the bat the Mets tied it up. 3-3 tied Bottom of 1st. In the 3rd Inning,Stephen Drew came up with Miguel Montero on 2nd, Drew doubled to Deep center field (you know how big Citi's Center field is!) And Montero scored from 2nd and scored. 4-3 D-Backs Top 3rd. In the Bottom half of the Inning, David Wright came up for his second time. Wright again made good contact with the ball and it went DEEP AND DEEP and finally fell next to the Apple for a 2-Run Shot. Wright's second of the game! 5-4 Mets Bot. 3rd. In the 6th, Kelly Johnson came up. Johnson smashed one to center like Wright did earlier. And it had the SAME EXACT RESULT. 2-Run Shot. 6-5 D-Backs Top 6th. Miguel Montero, who has already had a big day already, hit one to Right, it went high and long. going, going Frenchy looks up and watches it bounce off the Subway sign for a 3-Run Shot. 9-5 D-Backs Top 6th. In the 7th, trying to give the Mets some hope, Angel Pagan came up. he smacked one through the hole and brought Reyes around to score 9-6 D-Backs Bot. 7th. But Chad Qualls and other D-Back relievers shut down the Metros for the rest of the game. Final: 9-6 D-Backs. Opinion: If we wanna catch the Phils aand run away from the Fish, we need to start beating this last-place team. THEY HAVE 38 WINS! come on guys! we can't collapse! sstart doing what you did when you were 11 games over .500! PLEASE! WIN! HR Meter: Wright: (16,17(156,157)) Johnson: (17(62)) Montero: (4(35))

Ike Strikes

New York Mets Record: 52-50
Current Streak: W1
The New York Mets were looking to win a series for the first time since June 25-27 vs the Twins. The mets have been 0-7-1 in series since that one, including a terrible 2-9 road trip after the All-Star break. But The Mets were facing the RED-HOT St.Louis Cardinals in the rubber match after a heart-breaking 8-7 13-inning loss the night before vs the Cards, the Mets needed some hope in New York. Well, Ike Davis has given some of that hope all year. The 23-year old Davis who had 14 Homers coming into Thursday, has been hot. The Previous night, Ike got a big 2-run single to tie the game in the 8th. To Citi Field we go. Ike came up in the third in a scoreless ball game with men on the corners, and on the first pitch absolutley blasted one. Jon Jay,looked up in the stands and watched the ball fall into the stands for a 3-Run Bomb. With that Homer, Ike ties All-Star David Wright with the most Homers on the team. Later in the Game, Carlos Beltran came up after a hustle triple by Angel Pagan, and Carlos got a bloop single and Angel scored on the play. 4-0 Mets. But the real story of the game was Starting Pitcher and Knuckleballer R.A. Dickey. Dickey pitched a gem of a game. 8.1 Innings Pitched only 6 or so hits allowed. K-Rod came in and finished it, but R.A. still was the talk of SportsCenter On Friday Morning. HR Meter: Davis: (15(15))

Loney In New York

New York Mets: 50-48

Current Streak: L1

The New York Mets have proved this year that "there's no place like home" The Mets, who have been in a a season-long 11 game road trip vs the Giants,Dodgers and the Diamondbacks. They've proved their "saying" even more. Coming into the 10th game of the 11-game trip, the Mets were 2-7 on the trip and have fallen to third in the East. But they were hoping their fortunes would change against the Los Angeles Dodgers, who they beat the previous night. Off to the Races,Xavier Paul, the second batter of the GAME,got a Sacrifice Fly to drive in speedy leadoff hitter Rafael Furcal. 1-0 Dodgers. But the Big Blue struck again in the 4th, when starter,Mike Pelfrey was in a jam. The catcher who's been on the DL for most of the year Brad Ausmus came up. He slapped one up the middle and Blake DeWitt scored. But the Mets were not going to be shut out again. Rod Barajas made that happen when he got a single to Deep left center field (on the play,Rod was trying to stretch it to 2 bases but strained his oblique,Henry Blanco took his place.) and ike Davis scored 2-1 Blue. Next,Jose came up in a big spot. He slapped one through the hole and Jason Bay scored. 2-2 tied. the score would stay that way until we had to play a little extra baseball. In the 12th Inning,Reliever Elmer Dessens got in a big jam. Letting up two hits to make it men on the corners,NO outs. Elmer stayed composed when he got a ground ball right back to him, looked Casey Blake back to third and threw to first for the out. Jerry came out and decided to put in former starter Oliver Perez in. Oli got Andre Ethier to Foul Out,and then Jamey Carroll to ground out to keep the Mets chances alive. But the Mets could'nt do anything to help Oli's cause. Oli then in the bottom half got Matt Kemp to flie out. Then came James Loney, Loney coming into this game had not had a walk-off Home Run in his career. Loney Drove one high in the air...going...going.Beltran gives chase but he watches it go over wall! Dodgers Win. Opinion: with us sliding in this road trip we just need to go home a win some valuble games if we wanna make the playoffs. And we need to get more hits and less strikeouts in the box. It was very Loney in New York. (Lonely)

Hudson's Hazeballs

New York Mets Record: 47-40

Current Streak: L3
The New York Mets were facing the Atlanta Braves when they faced a problem. They Could not see the ball! Tim Hudson,The pitcher for the Braves, was throwing almost blurry fastballs to the stumbling Mets. And that showed, As the Mets 2-5 hitters went a combined 0-12 with 9 runners left on base. Mike Pelfrey, the pitcher for the Mets, could not help eiether letting 3 ER in only 4 innings pitched. Pelf got screwed in the 5th when Troy Glaus and Omar Infante got RBI singles. Then Yunel Escobar Grounded into a double play, and Troy Glaus Scored. Then,as of things haven't already gotten sour for him and Elmer Dessens, The PITCHER Tim Hudson doubled to Left, scoring Eric Hinske to make it 4-0 Braves. As for the Mets Offense, Tim Hudson seemed like a Roy Halladay to them. Hudson threw seven innings for the NL East leading Braves only allowed 4 or less hits in this Roy Halladay-impersonating performance. Opinion: If we wanna get back on track we need to start having plate discipline and getting valuble hits in clutch situations. And with the Phils right on our tails,we need to start winning valuble games. Injury Update: Carlos Beltran to return in the cleanup spot on Thursday vs the Giants. Jose Reyes out of Midsummer classic with oblique injury.

Dingers Dope Dickey

New York Mets Record: 47-39

Current Streak: L2
The second-place New York Mets had to start a CRUCIAL 3-game series vs The very-hot-and-first-place Atlanta Braves. This Series was crucial because it could eiether make it a 3-team race in the NL East or a two-team race in the NL East. R.A. Dickey took the mound for the metros,as did Tommy Hanson for the Braves. But Lets go see what happened to these two pitchers. In the 1st, Troy Glaus came up with runners on the corners. Troy hits one very softly to Jose at Short, but Jose can't handle it! Melky Cabrera come into score to give the Braves a 1-0 lead. But In the 3rd,the Mets countered. David Wright came up with Runners on 2nd and 3rd. Wright did something "The Wright Way" and got the Sacrifice fly to tie the game up at 1. The surging Braves came back in the 5th, when Troy Glaus hit a single to Right Field to Jeff "Frenchy" Francoeur. Jeff saw that Brain Mcann was rounding 2nd and used his arm to get him out at third! But Omar Infante scored before the tag, which meant the run counted. 2-1 Braves. In the bottom half of the inning, Jose came up with R.A. Dickey at 2nd. Jose has been having to bat righty,vs RHP's which is causing him a hard time. But Jose looked like his old self when drove a line drive right over Eric Hinske head, driving in Dickey to tie it up at 2. In the 7th Inning, with 2 outs, Melky Cabrera came up. Melky hit the ball deep to right.....deep..off the PEPSI sign for a Home run. 3-2 Braves. Next came All-Star Omar Infante. Omar drove one in the opposite way Melky did,but out of it came the same result. Home Run. 4-2 Braves. Those two blasts off R.A.became the deciding blows of the game,as the Braves take the first game from the Metros,4-2. Opinion: THESE NEXT TWO GAMES ARE MUST-WINS FOR US. Because with the Phils on our tails we need to win some games vs the Surging Braves. HR Meter: Cabrera: (3(39)) Infante: (2(39))

The Wait Is Over

New York Mets Record: 47-37

Current Streak: W1
Johan Santana came into Tuesday Night's games vs the Reds with a 5-5 record, one you don't see very much from this former Cy Young Award winner halfway through the year. Also, one other thing that you don't see very much of was that he hadn't pitched a shutout since 2008. And the Last thing was that he's hit no Major League HR's. Not to be harsh on him or anything,as you know, pitchers don't hit them often. But Yorvani Gallardo (Brewers) has hit 3 HR's THIS YEAR! No wonder he's an all-star! Johan was looking to change his fortune vs The Reds, who lead the NL in homers and runs scored, his chances didn't look very promising. In The 3rd Inning, Johan came up to bat. After a greuling 11 pitches, Johan finally hit one fair and it was going and gooooooooooing, hooking towards the corner...off the foul screen! Home Run!!!!!! His first Major League HR and it gave the Mets a 1-0 lead! Next, in the 6th, Hot Jason Bay came up with Jose Reyes on 3rd and Wright on 2nd, he hit it up the middle and both runs came into score. 3-0 Mets. Johan's bid of pitching a shutout got threatened in the 9th when the Reds had two men on with 1 out. Jerry Manuel came out to talk to Johan and asked "do you wanna go to the bullpen?" And Johan replied "I'll finish it" Jerry said no more as he walked back and hoped that Johan would keep his word. Johan did just that as he got Jonny Gomes to line out on a terrific play by Rookie Ike Davis. and then got Drew Stubbs to flie out for Johan's 7th career shutout. Johan was the First Mets pitcher to hit a HR and pitch a shutout in the same game since Kerry Falcone did it in 1981. HR Meter: Santana: (1(1))

Home Runs and Controversy

New York Mets Record: 46-37

Current Streak: L1
There are some things in a baseball game that well...make a baseball game! One of those things is Controversy. Evan though most of us don't like it,it makes the whole game better (or sometimes worse). The other thing is Home Runs. Homers are one of the beauties in a baseball game. Just seeing these hitters like Albert Pujols or Prince Fielder make your jaw drop when they hit the ball into the stands. But lets stop talking about it and get to the game! The Mets were facing the NL Central leading Cincinatti Reds in a start to a three-game series. In a Flash, Mike Pelfrey had two outs in the top of the first when wannabe All-Star snub Joey Votto came up to the plate. on the second pitch, Votto got contact. and Pagan chased and chased and chased but when he looked up the ball was in the bleachers. 1-0 Mets. But the Mets didn't take that quietly as hot Jason Bay came uup and smacked one through the hole and David Wright scored. 1-1 Mets. Things stayed quiet until the 5th, where one more piece of baseball came into play. Pelf pitched the 2-2 pitch to Scott Rolen, and Scott check swung, but after he check swung, he headed towards 1st. But the Umpire stopped and called it a strikeout. But Rolen said the pitch hit his forearm. The men in blue got together and talked it over,a finally decided that Rolen got hit and with the bases juiced,Brandon Phillips scored. 2-1. Manuel just exploded after he heard the call. EXPLODED. He was pleaing his case as were David Wright and Rod Barajas. After a few minutes of Screaming, Manuel got ejected by 2nd base ump Dan Igganota. After that, Drew Stubbs knocked one through the glove of Ruben Tejada and two more Runs scored. 4-1 Reds Next Corky Miller got a double off Pelf which scored 2 MORE Runs. 6-1 Reds. Then the Rookie Pitcher Travis Wood came up. Travis knocked one deeep into center and Angel could not track it down until Travis got a Triple and his first Major League RBI. 7-1 Reds. After that, Angel came up in the bottom half of the Inning. Angel led off the Inning with a big bang as he rounded the bases for his 20th Career Home Run. 7-2 Reds. After a Wright Triple, The Franchise came up. He grounded one back to the Rookie pitcher but he bobbled it and Ike's last stride was enough to make him safe at first with a RBI. 7-3 Reds. Rod Barajas next got a single into very shallow left, scoring The Franchise. 7-4 Reds. But we were not done yet. Alex Cora came up and knocked one into the right center gap for a 2-run double. 7-6 Reds. Then In the 6th, Joey drived another one deep, deep, and Gone again! 8-6 Reds. The Mets could not come over the deficit and lost 8-6 Final. Opinion: This game was very intense. If we could Win this Series then we'll be good!

Unlikely Sights

New York Mets 45-35
Current Streak: W1
There were some unlikely Sights in Nationals Park on Friday. As the Mets and Nationals warmed up, there was tension in the air. As the tension settled,i'll show you what happened. In the 1st, with Ruben Tejada on 3rd and Wright on 1st,Ike "The Franchise" Davis came up. The Franchise knocked an easy ground ball to Christain Guzman at second. Guzman bobbles it and just gets Ike out at first while Ruben comes into score. 1-0 Metros. But the game really got broke open in the fourth inning. It all started with a Wright Way Double. Then,Ike AND Jason Bay got walked bases loaded for starter Luis Atilano. Then Rod Barajas flied out to shallow center,no run scores. Then Gunner Jeff Francoeur Lined out hard to Rookie Ian Desmond. Then came Alex Cora, the guy with a .139 avg and 0 Grand Slams with the bases loaded coming into Friday. That changed dramatically. Cora hits a high fly ball...back goes Morse....he has it! No! in and out of the glove of Mike Morse off the wall and Cora will get a Base clearing 3- Run Triple! 4-0 Mets. Then comes the pitcher Jonathan Niese. Niese pulls right down the shall left field line and hustles to get a Double. 5-0 Metros. Pitching took over after the big inning, as Jonathan Niese had a career night. He struck out a career-high 8 batters and only let 1 Earned run. That Earned Run came in the 7th when he let a Hammer Bomb. In other words, a Home Run by Josh "The Hammer" Willingham. 5-1 Mets. But the Tension grew in the bottom of the 9th, when the Nats got 2 runs to make it 5-3 with men on 1st and second. But Roger Bernadina just took his lead a little to far and K-Rod noticed turned around like a cheetah and got Bernadina picked-off for the last out of the game. And the Mets frowns from yesterday turned into smiles as the got their 45th win of the year. Hometown Hero

New York Mets Record: 44-35

C urrent Streak: L1 (WAS)

Five Infielders. That's what the New york Mets had in the decisive play of Thurday nights grudge match between the New York Mets and the Washington Nationals. It was a weird sight to see in D.C.. Left Fielder Jesus Feliciano made the move to move to the infield for a even more chance of turning two with the bases loaded and with one out and Virginian Born power-hitting Ryan Zimmerman coming up in the Bottom of the 9th. Earlier In the Game, the Nats had just tied it up 1-1 in the 7th, when Nyger Morgan hit a single to bring in Ian Desmond. That was the Turning Point. And the nats were falling head over heels after they saw another "What Zim Does" Moment. Yep,Ryan hit a fly ball to one of the best arms in the Majors,Jeff Francoeur. Jeff got it there but to late. As Willie Harris jumped up and down and Ryan got the traditional pie-in-the-face,the Mets just Stood in Aw. Their lead had suddenly evaporated. Just like in the Water Cycle. And they couldn't do anything It was about the big cumulonimbus cloud that stood above them. All they could do was watch and watch as their 35th loss sank in to the bottom of their hearts. It was a Sad moment in Mets town.
